Hey ho!
This months podcast is a bumper edition, not only have we got interviews and music from the bands who played the Sneaky Pete's stage at our 3rd Birthday celebrations last month, we also have a special report from This Is Music in Leeds which just started up in April.
So our 3rd Birthday night was a mega success. We had two separate gigs running at the same time and both were well attended.
At our regular venue of Sneaky Pete's we had young Edinburgh upstarts HOMEwork and Tie for Jack sharing the stage with relative old timers Y'all is Fantasy Island (they are about to make their 5th album!).
Across town in the hip basement hang out that is The Bowery the line up was more folk influenced with the delicate tones of Rob St John and his "super-group" backing band kicking off proceedings. Rob was followed by New York based underground darling Mike Bones. Finally Edinburgh heroes Broken Records took to the stage for another passionate set of up lifting Scottish-Eastern-European-folk-rock.
After all guitars, amps, drums and assorted music gear was packed away at both venues the party continued at Sneaky Pete's with an eclectic DJ set from BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio Scotland's Vic Galloway. After Vic's storming set This Is Music residents iTallah-Disco and Bargain Harold took over the wheels of steel with their own take on party tunes and old skool anthems for the final part of the night.

Howdy folks!
First of all a quick note to say if you have not heard or downloaded the first edition of our lovely podcast then act fast as we will have to take it down in a few weeks to make way for May's podcast. This is due to storage limitations.
So our April night saw fine performances from two epic bands, ambient five piece The French Quarter and the anthemic Chutes.
THE FRENCH QUARTER

The Stirling outfit opened proceedings with their brand of big-sound post rock bliss that Scottish bands seam to excel at. I've never heard the crowd so quiet and receptive to an opening act as they were for The French Quarter. myspace.com/thefrenchquarter
CHUTES
The Edinburgh lads collectively known as Chutes have been lying low for the past year but for a good reason as you'll hear in this podcast. Never the less it was great to see them back on stage with new tunes and old faves sitting comfortably side by side in the set. myspace.com/chutesmusic
NEXT MONTH....its our 3rd birthday! Details of what we've got planed are in this episode so go download or stream this bad boy to find out more. Enjoy!
One love

Another day another dollar, another month another blogger.....
Last month This Is Music was pretty darned exciting!  I know we said that our January night was possibly the best This Is Music we'd ever put on, but truth be told I think this one was just as brilliant, if not more so.  People were queueing.  Queueing!
Unfortunately, I was on the door when the bands were on so I couldn't really see anything.  What I heard though, was ace!  First up were Glasgow million-piece, or more accurately, ten-piece, How To Swim.  Since 2006 they've released a series of EP's, and in Spring of this year are set to release their debut album.  They're a really fun band, and they make very exciting, fun and interesting music.
Next up were our headline bandido, Meursault. Darlings of the Edinburgh music scene at the moment, they really can't seem to put a single foot wrong.  During the gig, a queue, which I mentioned earlier, formed.  We hit capacity half way through How To Swim's set, and so it became 'one in, one out'.  People were queueing in the hope that other people would leave once they had seen How To Swim.  Unfortunately this wasn't the case, but we managed to shoehorn in a few extra people for Meursault anyway....and then those that couldn't get in for the gig came back later for the club.  Yay!
Meursault recently released their debut album, Pissing On Bonfires/Kissing With Tongues, on Song by Toad.  They're going to be playing the Fence Homegame Festival this coming April in Anstruther, and if you're not from Scotland or indeed Edinburgh, then fear not as they could be coming to a town near you soon as they're going to be doing a wee bit of touring in 2009.
The club saw Rory and Gill from Broken Records take to the wheels of steel.  Playing such a varied set is really what This Is Music is about, and we had a lot of fun listening, dancing and singing along to their tune selection.  Thanks to Lewis (HP's mate) who DJ'd for us between the bands, and thank you thank you thank you to Rachel Maclean who provided us with some pretty mental visuals for the night too.  If you were there, then you'll know what I'm talking about.
What's happening in March?
RBRBR
Edinburgh's own RBRBR had a busy 2008 supporting the likes of Metronomy and appearing in session for Vic Galloway's Introducing show on Radio 1. The boys bring their pounding live show - and possibly some dancing Ninjas! - to This Is Music
OVER THE WALL
Glasgow based Over The Wall are a two piece who use keyboards, laptop beats, guitars, mandolins, trumpets, cowbells, harmonicas, hurdy gurdys and kazoos to create their own brand of "euphoric pop". They released their EP "The Rise and Fall of Over The Wall" on Motive Sound at the tail end of last year and were named as one of the Skinny Magazine's "Ones To Watch" for 2009.
PLAYDATE DJ's
Sneaky Pete's venue mates PLAYDATE complete this months line-up, the boys have just celebrated their 1st Birthday in January after a year of going from strength to strength, culminating in a roof blowing appearance from DRUMS OF DEATH. The boys headline with support from residents WHAY? and i-TALLAH DISCO
Plus Visuals by KNIGHTS WITHOUT ARMS
It's £3 for the bands // Free from 11pm for the club
Right, time to download that podcast then....or to subscribe if you haven't already.  There are some free tracks this month from How To Swim and Meursault, and there's a sneak preview of what to expect for our night on Friday 13th March.
Looking forward to seeing all your lovely faces down at Sneaky Pete's this month.
Peace out guys and gals.

Hello blog and podcast fans!  How's it going?
I just wrote paragraphs and paragraphs worth of amusement for your reading pleasure, and when trying to save it, it all disappeared.  I am now angry, but shall try to remain nice and calm.
So, what happened last month?  To be honest with you, it's all a bit hazy.  We reckon that our January night was possibly the best This Is Music we've ever put on!  Everyone who was there was amazing.  The bands were amazing, the crowd were amazing, the bar staff were amazing, and it was just a really lovely and encouraging start to the new year.  So, who played for us?
First up we had Popolo.  No singing, just intrument playing.  They're kind of across between Glasgow's Errors and Oxford's Foals....not quite as good as either, but we think they've got bucket loads of potential and reckon that they could be destined for bigger things.  We're honoured to have put them on at our night, and look forward to hearing what they have to offer in the future.
Second up, our headline act, Super Adventure Club.  When they're not working in Argos, they spend most of their time making awesome, catchy, noisy and wonderful music.  2 nights before they were set to play our night, they did a live session on Vic Galloway's BBC Radio 1 Introducing Show in Scotland.  We listened.  It was ace.  We got excited.  Then they came and played our night, and it was immense.  Pick Up Sticks.  Check.  Tommy Sheridan.  Check.  Hip Hop Pot Noodle.  Check.  Brilliant!
So, what can you expect in February?
Live music from Edinburgh's Meursault, and Glasgow's How To Swim is what you can expect!  You can also expect to hear a DJ Set from Broken Records!!  And of course, there will be the usual mess to the end of the night with resident DJ's Whay? and i-Tallah Disco!
Download!  Download!  Download!
See you at Sneaky Pete's.
Love and hugs

With live bands from 8pm with....
SUPER ADVENTURE CLUB
Super Adventure Club arose from the ashes of The Stepdads to become one of the noisest and most exciting bands to come out of the capital in some time. 2008 saw them release their debut album "Chalk Horror", which was subsequently made album of the month by Vic Galloway on his Radio 1 Introducing show. We also tipped this band for greatness two years ago in an interview with Fact Magazine, so come along and see how right we were!
"Edinburgh's radgest new band... know it’s no fun playing serious music if you have to take it seriously" ... "inventive brilliance" Chalk Horror: "****" -- The Skinny
"Super Adventure Club were quite simply one of the most exciting and intriguing Scottish bands I’ve seen in ages." -- The Herald
"The debut (Chalk Horror) from Edinburgh trio Super Adventure Club is an unpredictable, genre-busting stream of off-kilter noise-terrorism and mind-manipulating media malarky." -- The List
POPOLO
All the way from sunny Dundee we bring you the mighty Popolo. Counting David Shrigley and Errors amongst their fans Popolo bring their own brand of wonk math to This is Music. Set to support 65 Days of Static and Amusement Parks on Fire this band are certainly one to watch for this year.

BEARDS OF CANADA (Sicknote)
Everyone's favorite Canadians Matt & Rob from Cabaret Voltaire will keep you entertained with their iPod dueling playing everything from Converge to The Constantines!
